Preachers and Politics

Luke 16:13 MSG No worker can serve two bosses: He'll either hate the first and love the second Or adore the first and despise the second. You can't serve both God and the Bank.

representative - being or characteristic of government by representation in which citizens exercise power through elected officers and representatives; "representative government as defined by Abraham Lincoln is government of the people, by the people, for the people"
democratic - characterized by or advocating or based upon the principles of democracy or social equality; "democratic government"; "a democratic country"; "a democratic scorn for bloated dukes and lords"- George du Maurier

The Word of the Lord declares that you can not serve to masters. As an elected official in the legislative branch, which would include city council, state representatives, or congress; the very nature of that position provides a conflict with the Word of God. In the definition provided above a legislator is the representative of the people. All the people, the ones who vote for an individual and the ones who do not. God would never tell a man or women whom he called to preach the Word to put the people before Him. So when a man or women of God tells the ever popular " the Lord spoke to me and said to do ..." we know this to be a lie. If it does not line up with the Word of God then God did not say it.

I am sadden when those who claim to be called by God mislead the people, and lie on God. Does God change his mind? When he calls one to be part of the five fold ministry as outlined in Ephesians 4:11, does there come a time when God says; "that is not what I ment for you to do".

Is there a time when God goes from saying:
  • I want you to feed my sheep
  • Teach my Word in season and out of season
  • I will do the foolish thing to mess with the minds of the wise
  • Go out and make deciples
  • Do not cast your pearls among swine
  • Be with people you are equally yoked with
  • Be in the world but not of the world

to a time when God says:

  • represent those who do not even believe in me before man
  • work in an eviornment where you can not even mention my name publicly
It was never in God's perfect will that there be government, but I understand that we are living in the permitted will of God and we are to be good citizen's, obey those who have rule over us, give Caesars what is due to Caesars. God used men of God to influence leaders of Government not be the leaders of the Government.

The prophets were free to say what "thus say the Lord" because they were led by God, not the people, or the polls and public opinion.
